S. Korea unlikely to buy H1N1 vaccine from GSK
SEOUL, Nov. 26 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean government has so far shown no
intention of buying a vaccine for the Influenza A (H1N1) virus made by
GlaxoSmithKline Plc. (GSK), the South Korean unit of the Britain-based
pharmaceutical company said Thursday.
The government earlier signed a letter of intent with GSK to secure 3 million
doses of the "Aprepanrix" vaccine within the year.
"There have been disagreements over the terms of the agreement, and the
government has so far shown no sign of wanting to take the deal further," said
Yang Su-jin, an official at the company's communications division.
Health authorities here have recently said there is no need to bring in foreign
vaccines, as the country is able to produce enough domestically.
Meanwhile, a batch of Aprepanrix has been recalled in Canada following
allegations linking it to at least six cases of anaphylactic shock, a severe,
life-threatening allergic reaction that can lead to respiratory failure and
respiratory arrest.
