MALAYSIA LAUNCHES PROGRAMME TO WOO INVESTORS

JELI (Malaysia), Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has launched a programme to
attract local and foreign investors to boost economic growth by between two and
three per cent next year.

Minister of International Trade and Industry, Mustapa Mohamed, said the
programme would be undertaken by agencies under his ministry like Malaysian
Industrial Development Authority (Mida) and Economic Planning Unit of the Prime
Minister's Department.

"The programmes also involves efforts by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib
Razak to attract foreign investors," he told reporters here Saturday.

He said he would be leading a mission to Geneva Saturday night.

Mustapa said the efforts to woo investors were because the global economic
slowdown has affected the country's growth.

"As at September this year, we managed to attract only RM20 billion (US$5.89
billion) in investments compared with RM62 billion last year (US$18.28
billion)," he said.
