Vientiane-Pakse-Ho Chi Minh air route to operate next year

(KPL) A new air route between Vientiane Capital, Pakse (Champassak province) and Ho Chi Minh’ City in south Vietnam will be in operation in early January 2010, according to the Lao Airlines.
The opening of the new air route is aimed at boosting tourism, passengers and goods transportation between the two countries, said last week, Head of the cabinet of Champassak province Administration, Mr Niphone Viengpaseuth.
He said that the new flight linking Vientiane, Pakse and Ho Chi Minh would attract more foreign and local tourists and investors to Laos’s southernmost province of Champassak.
The existing special solidarity, friendly relations and comprehensive cooperation of the two Parties and Governments as well as between Champassak province and Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam would be strengthened, he said.
Deputy Director of the Lao Airlines, Laos’s national carrier, Mr Sengpaseuth Mathouchanh, elaborated that the opening of the new flight service was in response to the growth in tourism industry. The flight will operate on 26 January 2010 after suspending for six years.
The flight service has been suspended due to the low number of passengers, who switched to cheaper buses and travel by private vehicles.
He continued that the flight will give more convenient services to passengers on the Pakse-Ho Chi Minh City route, particularly the promotion of mutual trade and tourism.
The Chinese-made 56-seat MA60 and French-made 70-seat ATR72/200 aircrafts will be in service three days a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday).
For the first three months after the re-launch, a one-way ticket for the Pakse-Ho Chi Minh flight costs US$85 (722,500 kip), while a return ticket costs US$184 (1,564,000 million kip).
