Iran frees 5 British sailors
TEHRAN, Dec. 2 (MNA) - Iran has released five British sailors who had been detained in the Persian Gulf after they illegally entered Iranian waters.
The sailors were detained on November 25 at the vicinity of Siri Island in the Persian Gulf.
“Five Britons who had been detained near Siri Island after the illegal entry of their boat were released,” the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) public relations office at Siri Island said in a statement.
After some investigations and interrogations from the five persons it became clear that they had entered Iranian waters by mistake, the statement said.
“After getting necessary commitments it was decided to release them,” it added.
