Yonhap News develops Web site for mobile phones
SEOUL, Dec. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Yonhap News Agency said Wednesday it has
developed a mobile version of its official Web site to distribute news content
over wireless phones.
The new site (http://m.yonhapnews.co.kr or http://m.yna.co.kr) is part of
Yonhap's efforts to provide a wide array of real-time news coverage for consumers
on the go, the news agency said.
Yonhap, a Seoul-based publicly-funded news agency, launched a downloadable news
service earlier in June that is optimized only for subscribers to South Korea's
largest mobile carrier SK Telecom Co.
The newly-developed site will be accessible from any mobile gadget with wireless
Internet capability regardless of which mobile carrier users subscribe to, the
news agency said.
The mobile news site carries some 3,000 news stories a day compiled by Yonhap's
550 reporters from inside the country and abroad. The service also provides photo
and video coverage, according to Yonhap.
News is provided in four languages -- Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese --
and will additionally be provided in Arabic, Spanish and French in the near
future.
Yonhap said it plans to make its mobile news service available this month for
free download via the online applications store for Apple Inc.'s iPhone.
