Choral singing festival
Pavlodar, December 08, 2009, Khabar - Pavlodar has witnessed the fifth republican festival of choir singing with popular folk songs and works of modern authors, most difficult songs and squall of applauses. The people’s artist of the USSR Yermek Serkebayev referred to it as the main cultural event of the past year.
Yermek Serkebayev, USSR People’s artist:
- Pavlodar is a city which develops music. We are very happy to come here every year. I believe that Pavlodar is a very musical city.
Specialists say that choral singing was always best in Kazakhstan. People used to sing in schools, villages and factory clubs who frequently travelled abroad but now everything has changed.
Yuriy Borodikhin, teacher, Tchaikovsky College:
- Choral ensembles are in need of the works of Kazakhstan’s composers and there are very few scores for choirs.
A choir of World War II veterans was the honorary participant of the festival. Pavlodar resident Dauren Toleubayev was voted the best choirmaster and Yelena Yegorova from Shymkent received the title of best concertmaster.
