True Colonel filming

Almaty, December 10, 2009 (Khabar) - Not far from the city of Kapshagai the film director Yegor Konchalovskiy has started shooting of the “True Colonel” film. The director said that all the residents of Russia and Kazakhstan were born in the USSR and his film is about Soviet people and the heroes of the Afghanistan war. The film crew said that Kapshagai is an ideal place for shooting. The most important thing is the fact that this place was the place of meeting with the real hero, Kara-major, for the capture of whom Akhmad Shakh Masud promised to pay 1 million US dollars. Boris Kerimbayev, the actual Kara-major, is acting as the advisor.

- The work is in the full swing. The film crew said that Konchalovskiy is a workaholic since he is always working and trying to produce really good films.

The main character of the film is a prototype of a real officer, Marat Ayumov. This role is played by Berik Aitzhanov, who, according to the plot, was serving in a special mission unit under the command of Kara-major.

- As soon as he arrives here, he remembers all the events which were connected with this place. For example, today we are shooting reminiscences of one of the battles.

The famous actor Denis Nikiforov said that his birthday, the 2nd of August, coincided with the air force day and that is why he plays such characters in films very often. In “True Colonel”, he plays the main character’s friend, who is killed.

- The only modern films about the Afghan war are the Afghan Breakdown and the 9th Company. It is very interesting to return to this war.

Berik Aitzhanov, leading actor:
- We are shooting a film where people can see the true feelings of the warriors.

The battle scenes involve two helicopters, armoured personnel carriers, professional landing forces and stunt men. It is planned that the film will be released in spring next year.
