Kazakh language development

Astana, December 10, 2009 (Khabar) - 3 television channels with round-the-clock broadcasting in the Kazakh language will be launched in Kazakhstan and KAZTEST. The official language skills assessment system will be introduced for government employees. These innovations have been discussed at a session of the council of trustees of the Presidential state language development fund.

Kanat Saudabayev, State Secretary, Minister of Foreign Affairs of RK:
- The President of the country while addressing the people always stresses the future of Kazakhstan is in the Kazakh language and its development is a priority of language policy of the country.

The state is increasing the financing of the language development program on an annual basis. More than 5 billion tenge have been channeled towards this area over the last two years despite the recession. About 4 thousand schools with Kazakh as the language of instruction and 64 special educational centres are currently operating in the country. According to the National unity doctrine’s project, the retention and development of ethno-cultural and language identity of Kazakh ethnic groups is a significant challenge for the country where the state language should become a national unifying factor.

Maulen Ashimbayev, deputy chairman, Presidential Administration of RK:
- The National Unity Doctrine has been brought for nation-wide discussion. Therefore, your opinion is important for us. If we present our suggestions and amendments, I believe we will obtain a major and necessary document as a result.

All these introductions will be fixed in the legislation as it has been announced at the council session that amendments and additions are being prepared for the law on “Government service” and the Civil Code.
