S. Korea, U.S. team up for joint exercise aimed at sharing tactics

SEOUL, Dec. 10 (Yonhap) -- Fighter pilots of South Korea and the United States
will engage next week in a three-day joint drill aimed at boosting their tactical
coordination, the U.S. Air Force said.
The "Buddy Wing" exchange program will take place at Osan Air Base south of Seoul
from Dec. 16-18, involving the F-16 fighter jets of the two allies, the 7th U.S.
Air Force said in a release.
"The purpose of the Buddy Wing Program is to introduce and review tactics,
exchange ideas, and improve interoperability," it said, adding its purpose is to
"ensure battle-readiness and training for combined air operations."
About 28,500 U.S. troops are stationed in South Korea as a deterrent against
North Korea, a legacy of the 1950-53 Korean War that ended in a truce.
