Monument to Soviet, Rus servicemen to be unveiled in Vietnam.
CAM RANH (Central Vietnam), December 10 (Itar-Tass) -- A monument to
Soviet and Russian servicemen died while fulfilling their professional
duty will be unveiled at the former base of the Russian Navy in Cam Ranh
in Vietnam on Thursday. The memorial is situated on the territory of the
new international airport built at the site of the former military
aerodrome of the base of the Russian Navy.
During the Liberation War against American imperialism, which Vietnam
waged in the 1960s-1970s of the last century, Soviet military specialists,
many of whom died, stayed in the country. Later on, in 1979, a base of the
USSR Navy, which became the biggest Soviet military facility abroad,
appeared in the peninsula Cam Ranh in the province of Khan Hoa in Central
Vietnam.
The first memorial obelisk in honor of Soviet and Russian citizens
died in Vietnam appeared on the territory of the aerodrome Cam Ranh in
2001.
