MALAYSIAN EDUCATION MINISTRY TO INTRODUCE ACTIVITIES AFTER EXAMS TO PREVENT TRUANCY

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- The Education Ministry has planned to
introduce suitable activities for students after public examinations to prevent
truancy, the Senate was told Thursday.

Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said many students played
truant after examinations because they became bored as they was nothing more to
learn in the classes.

The ministry will identify suitable activities for students after
examinations through the Safety Standards Programme, he said when responding to
a supplementary question from Senator Zamri Yusof.

He said among others, the programme focused on student activity safety
management, social ills handling safety management, and crisis and disaster
safety management.

"We may introduce motivational programmes, camping, group activities or
competitions. This may prevent students and teachers from getting bored after
examinations," he added.

To the original question from Senator Wan Ramlah Wan Ahmad, Mohd Puad said
the ministry would use a holistic approach to solve student boredom with the
involvement of various quarters including parents.
