UFA, December 10 (Itar-Tass) -- The second international conference
"Islam's Ideals and Values in Education" opened in Ufa on Thursday. Taking
part in it are representatives of Muslim clergy of Russia, Tajikistan,
Uzbekistan, Turkey, Germany, India and Azerbaijan.
"It is gratifying to observe how ever new opportunities for the
development of Islamic education open in our country of late," said mufti
Nurmuhamet Nigmatullin, the chairman of the Muslim Religious Board of
Bashkortostan. "The new programs of Islamic education are drawn up in
Russia; Russian Islamic University of the Central Muslim Religious Board
is functioning," he said.
He noted a great deal was being done in Bashkortostan to restore
Islamic education and support the spiritual heritage of people of other
confessions. Thus, there exist in the republic some 900 mosques, 200
churches and over 20 prayer houses of various confessions. Seven religious
centres and over 1,360 other religious associations operate.
Rail Asadullin, the rector of Bashkortostan's State Pedagogical
University, holds the theme stated in the conference's title is extremely
important in the rapidly changing world today. The development of
religious education exerts direct influence on the upbringing of the young
generation and, respectively, on forming spirituality of people. He said
that Russia "is not in the periphery of the Islamic world but its
inseparable part, the country where millions of Muslims live, so the
closest of attention must be given to Islamic spiritual education."
The conference will last for three days. Work in sections and the
round-table meetings entitled "Fundamentals of Spiritual Culture at
School" and "Mass Media and Contemporary Islamic Education" are planned in
its framework.
