Evening of dombra music

Almaty, December 11, 2009 (Khabar) - Artists and spectators have switched places, with 640 dombra players sitting in the auditorium of the Almaty Pupils’ Palace and admirers of the national music on the stage. The musicians presented 15 kuyis. According to the staff of the Kurmangazy conservatory, Almaty doesn’t have a stage, which can involve such a large number of artists. However, this unusual situation didn’t spoil the atmosphere of the evening but rather on the contrary, the musicians were applauded. The spectators said that they felt that every musician put his heart, soul and love into the national music and homeland. The first such event happened in 1957 in Atyrau, when an orchestra of 1000 dombra players performed in the open air. Organizers of the concert in Almaty are planning to break this record in 2011 during the Winter Asian Games and collect 2000 musicians.

Zhumabai Kurmanzhan:
- When I heard the voices of thousands of musical instruments, I felt real national unity. The fact that the orchestra involves even very small musicians proves that children start to play music for early childhood. Although during the concert we switched places, it didn’t spoil the concert.
