The first sitting of Kazakhstani-British Academy

Almaty, December 11, 2009 (Khabar) - The Kazakhstani-British Academy under the Royal Asian Society will begin functioning the next year. It should unite historians and ethnographers who research the Central Asia. According to foreign scholars it is a unique region with a rich history, traditions and culture and it is necessary to study and talk about it. Research projects for 2010 were defined during the first international meeting in Almaty.
Kazakhstani-British Academy can be called a pioneer as there are no such organizations in our country and throughout the Central Asian region yet. The academy will gather the best minds of Kazakhstan, Great Britain, Russia, Netherlands, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The historians plan to hold joint archaeological expeditions. For example, the British people have a great interest in the Turkic period and times of Genghis Khan.

Yerlan Sairov, chairman of the Kazakhstani-British Academy:
- Culture and history of the Islamic period, culture and history of pre-Islamic period and the specific social and human processes that occurred during the period of Kazakhstan's independence. We plan to hold such expeditions in the East Kazakhstani region and in Ulytau.

Siddaharth Saxena, chairman of the Central Asian forum in Cambridge:
- Our cooperation has reached a new level. We all want one thing, to advance our research on the history and culture of Central Asia.

The first step of scientists is an English translation of books about Kazakhstan, issued under the program "Cultural Heritage". The books "History of Kazakhstan in the eastern miniatures” and a collection of studies of the Swiss traveler, Henri Moser on the history and culture of our country year at Cambridge and Oxford will be presented the next year. Books from the series "History of Kazakhstan in he Chinese sources” will be translated into English in the nearest future.

Meruert Abuseitova, director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Ministry of Education and Science of RK:
- We discovered a unique fund in the first historical archives in Beijing, they are documents of the Kazakh khans and sultans and their correspondence with the rulers of neighboring states. We would like to translate these books not only in Russian, but also in English, because it is the history of Kazakh statehood.

The Academy will also support research projects and students. It is assumed that they are on a competitive basis will be able to apply for an internship in the British and Kazakhstani universities.
