PRESIDENT : EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS IMPORTANT IN DEVELOPMENT EFFORT

Jakarta, Dec 11 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said communications between central and regional administrations had to be made more effective in the next five years for the success of the national development effort.

In his speech at the opening of the Meeting on National Development Plan here on Friday the President said the central and regional administrations must not blame each other in case a problem arose.

"I wish from now to the next five years coordination, communications, consultations and synergy could be built effectively," he said.

He said the cooperation between central and regional administrations was the key to the success of development efforts in the next five years.

The head of state also emphasized the importance of maintaining the balance between economic development and public participation in democracy so that the development effort would be inclusive and just.

"Development efforts are aimed at improving the welfare of the people. It is important for economic development to go in tandem with public participation in democracy. It will all produce a genuine justice," he said.

President Yudhoyono again emphasized the importance of economic development and distribution of growth and orientation to improving the quality of human resources.

The meeting was attended by provincial governors, district heads and mayors from across the country.

During the meeting until December 13, the governors, district heads and mayors could hold a dialogue directly with Vice President Boediono and ministers concerned with regard to collecting inputs for formulating long-term and mid-term development plans for the 2010-2014 period.

State Minister for Development Planning/Head of National Development Planning Board Armida Alisjahbana said the development plans would be formulated for realizing the vision and mission President Yudhoyono and Vice President Boediono had conveyed during the presidential campaign early this year.

The vision and mission contains 11 priority development programs including improving the welfare of the people, poverty elevation, development in education, health and environment management sectors.
