MUSLIMS READY TO ENSURE X'MAS SECURITY IN NTT
Kupang, Dec 12 (ANTARA) - Muslims in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province have expressed readiness to support and ensure Christmas Day security on December 25, 2009.
"We are ready to support Christmas and to ensure its security in Kupang," NTT Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) spokesman Jamaludin Ahmad said here on Saturday.
Jamaludin said the Muslims in NTT would help security personnel regulate the traffic or guard the houses of worship where Christians were observing Christmas services.
"In Christmas last year the Muslims from Anshor Youth Movement (GP Anshor) and Muslim Students Association (HMI) hit to the streets to help the police regulate the traffic, and we are going to do the same this year," Jamaludin said.
He said he would make a coordination with Mosque Youths (Remas), GP Anshor, HMI, and other Muslim organizations in East Nusa Tenggara to ensure the Christmas security.
Besides, Jamaludin will also make coordination with Kupang Episcopal and Synod in relation with their plan to help create security during Christmas Day.
"The main point for us is that we have to maintain the already religious harmony in Kupang in particular and in East Nusa Tenggara in general," Jamaludin said.
