PRESIDIENT MEETS NURUSSALAM PRAYER GROUP
Bogor, Indonesia, Dec 12 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the company of First Lady Mrs Ani Yudhoyono met with members of the Nurussalam prayer group ahead of the commemoration of the Islamic New Year next Friday in Ciawi, Bogor, West Java, on Saturday.
Around 1,000 members of the prayer group attended the prayer gathering themed "Avoid Slander, Spread Kindness among People. Let Us Unite to Build the Nation with Morality."
K.H. M Hidayat in his sermon at the prayer gathering said people who spread slander would not be able to smell the scent of heaven. He also said people need not use slander when they wish to seek the truth.
He said one had to do three things if his or her sin of slander would be forgiven.
"First, he/she must come to the place where he/she spread the slander and give a clarification. Secondly, he/she must come to the person slandered and apologize. Thirdly, he/she must repent to God and pledge to not repeat the act. To slander is the same as eating the flesh of one's brother," he said.
President Yudhoyono as the chief patron of the organizataion on the occasion said in his explanation of the history of the organization that "five years after its establishment the organization had carried out good religious services and played a good role to ask people to pray and lead them to the right path and had also accompanied me as head of state in leading the nation and state to build a better future," he said.
On the occasion he also called on all members of the organization to avoid slanders and to spread kindness among the people and unite to build the country with morality.
"I agree that noone should spread slanders, lies and false rumours because the punishment he/she would receive will be severe, unless he/she repents" he said.
He said all people must avoid violence in their life "even in politics one must not resort to violent and dirty politics. This is not good politics. It is the politics which is Islamic that we toghether wish to uphold," he said.
Also attending the gathering were the chief of the organization, Harris Thahir, religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali, coordinating minister for the economy Hatta Radjasa, minister/state secretary Sudi Silalahi, minister of energy and mineral resources Darwin S Saleh, state minister for state enterprises Mustafa Abubakar, state minister for cooperatives and small- and medium-businesses Syarief Hassan, education minister M Nuh and the commander of the defense forces, General Djoko Santoso and son Eddy Baskoro.
Eddy Baskoro and several cabinet ministers recently reported a group to the police for accusing them of receiving money from bailout funds for Century Bank. ***
