W JAVA PROVIDES RP40 BILLION FOR FOOD RESILIENCE

Bandung, W Java, Indonesia, Dec 16 (ANTARA) - The West Java government has provided Rp40 billion in business capital for the development of food resilience in the province, West Java Governor H Ahmad Heryawan said.

The economic empowerment programs of groups of people in food sensitive areas in 850 villages got a priority in the disbursement of the fund allocations, the governor said.

"The aim of the assistance is to develop food-self sufficiency by involving all stakeholders in the implementation of food programs. This program constitutes a follow-up of the same program that has been implemented previously," he said.

He said that the availability of food stocks and food resilience became the main focus and main agenda of West Java's agricultural development.

West Java's rice production in 2008 was recorded at 10.4 million tons of dried unhulled rice while based on the Central Board of Statistics (BPS)'s estimates, West Java's rice production in 2009 was projected to increase by 1.65 million tons.***
