NOVATEK buys Yamal oil and gas field.

TYUMEN, December 18 (Itar-Tass) -- Major Russian independent gas
producer NOVATEK, which is second only to Gazprom, acquired a promising
oil and gas field on Yamal Peninsula, local authorities said on Thursday.
Yamal department for natural resources said NOVATEK's subsidiary won
the tender for the Pilyalkin field and will engage in prospecting,
development and production of hydrocarbons there.
The filed occupies a territory of 1331 square kilometers with
estimated reserves of 15 million tons of oil and 48 billion cubic meters
of gas and 10 million tons of gas condensate.
NOVATEK was created in 1994 and produced 31 billion cubic meters of
gas on Yamal in 2008 and the target figure for 2009 is 40 billion.
