Repressed enlightener
Pavlodar, December 20, 2009, Khabar - List of famous historical figures, natives of Pavlodar region can be extended with one more name. Researches of local lore became seriously interested into biography of Kasymkazhy Mustafauly. It is known this person was actively engaged in enlightening activities till 1932 when he was arrested as an “enemy of people”. Very few documents about him were left, so scientists have had bit by bit to collect historical information about him. Ordinary rural teachers began the searches. Kasymkazhy lived in Shauken village in the outskirts of Pavlodar. Once upon a time it was a real regional cultural center, swords and ancient coins are still preserved here. During village meeting it was again remembered in 2006 about rich history of the settlement.
Researches of local lore found out Kasymkazhy built the first county school for boys at the beginning of last century. Later, the enlightener created in Pavlodar the “Gylym” society of teachers and intellectuals. Kasymkazhy Mustafauly was engaged in publishing and helped the young poets.
Aset Zhanisov, researcher:
- We have found a form in the Pavlodar regional archive, dating back to 1924. That is a record in certificate of birth in the mosque and we discovered grandfather of Kasym Mustafauly was famous batyr (warrior) of time of Ablai Khan.
Kasymkazhy was familiar with Alihan Bokeikhanov Ahmet Baitursynov and Sabit Donentayev. He helped Donentayev to publish a collection of poems “Uak-tuek” in U in 1915. Kasymkazhy suffered the same fate as many other outstanding intellectuals of that time. His last days were spent in two-story building on the bank of the Irtysh River. In 1930-s political prisoners were taken here and interrogations were arranged here. Kasymkazhy died in 1932. According to some reports, he was buried in a common grave at the cemetery for political prisoners.

- Nowadays a lot of interesting names are discovered and these names must remain in our history and our memory. Perhaps documentary materials still await for their investigators and their discoveries.
Bukhar-zhyrau, Mashkhoor Zhusup, Zhayau Musa, Dzhasybay warrior, Olzhabai-batyr, Sultanmahmut Toraigirov and Kanysh Satpayev, all of them left an indelible mark in the history of Kazakhstan. Name of Kasymkazhy Mustafauly occupies a worthy place among the famous natives of Pavlodar region, who dreamt of freedom and independence of their homeland.
