Meeting of President with managers of leading mass media
Astana, December 24, 2009 (Khabar) - Nursultan Nazarbayev communicated with the managers of leading mass media of Kazakhstan for almost two hours
The President summed up the year results, answered the most exciting questions of society and even performed one of his favorite songs. Nursultan Nazarbayev has visited “Yegemen Kazakhstan” newspaper’s new office. 2009 has become a special year for one of the oldest printed publications of the republic. Firstly, the newspaper turned 90. And secondly, the editorial staff is celebrating its great anniversary at a new building. The head of state congratulated journalists on the anniversary and had a chat with the executive group of the republic’s leading mass media in an informal setting. First of all, the president summarized the results of 2009. These 365 days have become a hard test for the entire world. Kazakhstan has experienced hardships as well. However, not a single enterprise has closed in Kazakhstan and people retained their income. On the contrary 400 thousand new jobs were created. Apart from that, the president especially noted that despite the difficulties the implementation of large-scale economic projects started this year.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- Kazakhstan is completing this year with positive results. There may be few but they are positive. It’s a great victory and it’s not an exaggeration. I would like to give an interesting piece of information that the volume of the economy of Kazakhstan has become equal to Ukraine’s economy this year. It’s a country with just short of 50 million people with a great economic potential and Kazakhstan has become equal to it.
Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed his point of view concerning the most discussed issues in the society. In particular, they are related to the development of state language.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- 5 billion tenge has been allocated. There are 120 Kazakh language centers. 3 languages of instruction are being introduced to all the schools. Children at nursery schools and elementary school can speak Kazakh as they are being taught well. Nobody taught the elder generation and required it either. Our constitution states that the Kazakh language is the state language. And there’s a corresponding law. However, it further states that at this stage of our development, the Russian language remains to be the official language which is used equally with the state language at all the establishments.
One more topic which will never lose its relevance is inter-ethnic accord. Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that the inter-ethnic tolerance in the Kazakh society cannot be considered as a bestowal or an accident. In the reality, it is a unique accomplishment of the nation and it is necessary to cherish it. It has recently become known that China expressed willingness to take part in the development of the agricultural sector of Kazakhstan by renting one million hectares of field lands from the country.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- Nobody said that we are offering land for sale. The 23rd article of Kazakhstan’s Land Code states that it is not allowed to sell land to foreigners. I would like to note that dilettantish statements of people are inadmissible, since it is nothing but a lie. People should be brought to trial for such disinformation and I would like the prosecutor’s office to monitor this issue. I would like to say again that the farmland in Kazakhstan can be purchased only by the residents of Kazakhstan and foreigners have a right to rent the land for 49 years. The law is single for everyone.
During the interview the president was answering personal questions. Nursultan Nazarbayev was asked how he spends his free time and he answered that he likes to be with his family, goes in for sport, reads and sings.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- Our job is simple, to take care about the wellbeing of the country. And even when it is snowing or raining, my heart worries about the country.
For Nursultan Nazarbayev free time is a very relative concept, since he has a very busy timetable. He has to sacrifice his weekends and holidays. This time, after the interview to heads of mass media, the head of state congratulated all Kazakhstan’s journalists with the forthcoming New Year and set off to another meeting.
