Christmas in South Korea

Seoul, December 27, 2009, Khabar - Christmas is being celebrated by the faithful in 145 countries of the world these days. And South Korea is among them. There are few holidays in the country and that’s why people value them very much. Winter holidays are most favorite ones.

- Christmas is one of our main holidays. I like it very much as this is one of few days when the whole family gets together.

- I like Christmas most of all as all the people in love can be together. I wish love knocks on everyone’s door in the New Year.

The “Namsan” television tower is one of the favorite places to walk. There are two observation areas, an open terrace and a revolving restaurant. The entire city is spread before the eyes. There are fellow-countrymen among the visitors who are taking pictures here.

Oksana Schneider:
- Anyone who travels to other country or city wants to find a part of something they belong to. And we’ve seen this local attraction under the name of Astana, Kazakhstan and decided to take a picture.

Natalia Loisha:
- We wanted to imprint this moment in our memory as the fact that there’s a little part of our homeland in Seoul warms our hearts.

Several thousands of Kazakhstani citizens are currently working and studying in South Korea. The embassy of Kazakhstan invited people to celebrate the New Year holiday together.

Darkhan Berdaliyev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Republic of Korea:
- People can call our embassy’s officials and celebrate the New Year together. We are planning to assemble in a restaurant and celebrate this holiday in a Kazakhstani way.

But most favorite holiday is traditional New Year by lunar calendar. On this day the Koreans fulfill rites and cook national dishes.
