WATER SUPPLY EXPANSION IN SAVANNAKHER UNDERWAY

June 10 (KPL) - Lao Water Supply Enterprise Company's branch of Savannakhet province is gearing up to install water supply system connecting to sub-station in rural districts to unsure local people access safe water. Director of Lao Water Supply Enterprise Company's branch of Savannakhet province Mr Phandola Khouanmuangchanh said recently that the water supply system would be covered about 80 % of sub-urban by 2020. At the present, the provincial water supply company is now looking for financial support for building a water supply plant in Kaysone Phomvihane district. "The company plans to expand the installation in 15 districts and other villages in all districts. According to the plan was 50,000 cubic metres a day to meet the present local demands," said Mr Phandola. The company proposed the foreign investor to invest in expansion of water supply system in the province. The proposal is now under consideration, which the plan will increase production capacity to 30,000 cubic metre a day, from 15,000 cubic metres, said Mr Phandola. Currently, there are three water supply substations in Savannakhet province, which are located in Outhoumphon, Champhone and Songkhone districts. Outhoumphon substation was a production capacity of 2,000 cubic metre a day covered by over 1,000 households. Champhone substation has the same volume production which sucked up water from 49 wells. However the Champhone water substation has just been able to produce 700 cubic metre a day during dry season. A new water supply plant constriction in Songkhone district expected to be worth of US$3million would kick off upcoming year.
