HOUSE PASSES BILL ON SMALL-SCALE ENTERPRISES INTO LAW

Jakarta, June 10 (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR) passed into law the Bill on Micro, Medium and Middle Scale Enterprises (UMKM) at its plenary session here Tuesday. The bill was passed into law after all factions in the House presented their final opinions and agreed to endorse it. The factions hoped the government would issue the law's implementing regulation immediately and supervise its implementation. UKM businesses which played a vital role in the country should also be protected and given guidance, they said. After passing the UMKM law, the House's plenum continued its business by listening to a report on a DPR draft regulation on procedures for the implementation of the tasks and authority of the DPR's Council of Ethics. The plenary session also heard explanations on the aims and objectives of proposals for exercising the House's right of inquiry on the transfer pricing case and the fuel oil price hikes. The session also took a decision on a proposal to use the House's interpellation right on the government's policy to anticipate the impact of the surges in the prices of daily necessaries. On the occasion, Yusuf Macan Effendi (Dede Yusuf), a member of the Democrat Party faction (FPD), ended his tenure as a legislator as he was to take up his new post as vice governor of West Java. He officially bade farewell to House members on Tuesday noon.
