Unusual New Year presents in Russia

Moscow, December 31, 2009 (Khabar) - As part of the New Year celebrations, the traditional food of Moscow residents such as Russian salad, tangerines and “herring under a fur coat” remain the same but the presents for 2010 are unique. The items of the Soviet Union interior were changed by means of humour and irony and turned into an avant-garde addition to the holiday.
Alyona Kuzmina, shop manager:
- Our designer makes unusual beads. We have bought a phial for perfume and the shape of the decorations can vary from round to square.
Diaries, dust-wrappers and date books have such inscriptions as the Diary of a Madman or What is to be done? And there is a particular present for workaholics.
Alyona Kuzmina, shop manager:
- People like to present strait-jackets to their bosses, since they have no chance of saying that it is cruel to force everyone to work a lot during the year. This strait-jacket is like a real one.
The age of these objects makes them more valuable. Gena the Crocodile and Cheburashka are presents for fans of 1970s and dumbbell-shaped forks for those who keep fit. An Oscar for the best man and woman role in the family can also cheer people up. All these things are made in a special “thinghospital” and the access here is forbidden.
Alexandr Vlasov, craftsman:
- Currently I am working on the creation of tablets with such inscriptions as “To a Beauty”, “To a Blond”, “To a sultry woman”. I am working on these inscriptions all day.
Last year, the word “anti-crisis” was the most popular one but this year only the unsold cards serve as a reminder of this time.
Alyona Kuzmina, shop manager:
- People try to switch over to something good and believe that the New Year will bring them happiness and wealth. Recently, such tablets as “Crisis – no entry were in great demand.
