“Asia-Park” – assistance to disabled people
Astana, January 01, 2010 (Khabar) - In Astana, Kazakhstan’s businessmen handed a new lift to a disabled person of first grade. This action was held by the company “Arcada”, which recently opened in Astana the new shopping and entertainment center “Asia Park”. Vladislav Gabidullin is a reserve lieutenant colonel, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan. In 1980-s he operated the fighter Yak-28 and he suffered a stroke, stopped walking and talking. For several years the veteran was unable to leave the apartment, because it was difficult to take out wheelchair from the fifth floor, in a house where there is no elevator. Today the management of “Asia-Park” trade complex handed Vladislav Zeinullayevich a special lift. This device allows raising and lowering the wheelchair up the stairs.
Valentine Gabidullina, wife of the warrior-internationalist:
- This unit will allow us to go outside, look at new constructions in the city and watch the new attractions in recent years. We sat at home for 2,5 years and now we hope this lift will help us very much. I want most people responded and helped disabled people like my husband.
Iran Omarbekov, President of the Kazakhstani Confederation of disabled people:
- There are many people who need such lifts. We raise these issues at the Coordinating Council in municipal administration and at the ministry. And today we have seen the first result.
According to the representatives of trade center, the country must develop a culture of directed social assistance to people with disabilities.
Arman Makhanov, manager of “Asia Park” mall:
- This is not a single campaign. In future we hope the other shopping centers and other businessmen support our initiative as part of their social responsibility.
There are more than 14 thousand disabled persons in Astana now. Almost half of them move in wheelchairs and need special devices that would facilitate their lives. Iran Omarbekov, president of the confederation hopes today's example of “Asia-park” will make the Kazakhstani businessmen actively help people in need.
