Vietnam - promising labour market: ILO

Hanoi (VNA) - The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has praised Vietnam 's labour market, saying it is a promising market where workers are quick -witte d and intelligent.
Director of ILO in Vietnam Rie Vejs Kjeldgaard spoke to Lao Dong newspaper on June 10 about a European Union-funded project which ILO will manage to help develop Vietnamese human resources.
According to the director, the 11.7-million-USD project "Better information for creating jobs and developing skills in Vietnam " is the largest project ILO has carried out in Vietnam.
Kjeldgaard said the project has two main objectives. The first is to assist in setting up labour market information centres at the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (Molisa) and its offices in a number of localities.
The second is to increase the quality of vocational teachers to meet the demand for skilled workers at both state and non-state sectors.
It is very necessary to improve professional skills for workers in the context of international integration, the director said, adding that Vietnam 's membership in the World Trade Oraganisation has created a high demand for integration into the world economy and so skilled workers are essential.
Expected for completion by the end of 2010, the project will be carried out throughout Vietnam by ILO in association with Molisa, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Vietnam Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance.
ILO will organise a launch for the project later this month, the director said.-Enditem
