MALAYSIA LEND SUPPORT FOR VIVA PALESTINA CONVOY TO GAZA

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 5 (Bernama) -- The people and government of Malaysia have offered support and sought assistance of the Egypt government to facilitate and expedite necessary clearance for the Viva Palestina convoy that is on its way to El-Arish Port, Egypt.

Foreign Minister Anifah Aman in a statement Monday night said that Malaysia
had also requested the Egyptian authorities to facilitate clearance of the
convoy at the El-Arish Port to enable them to proceed to Gaza.

The convoy comprises of non-governmental organisations from 17 countries,
including Malaysia, to deliver aid worth US$1 million (RM3.5 million) to
Palestinians in Gaza consisting of food, medicines and medical equipments, toys
and books for children.

Viva Palestina, is a British-based registered charity organisation which
came into being in January 2009, with the initial intention of running a
humanitarian aid convoy, to the Gaza Strip.
