South Korean car production drops by 8% in 2009.
SEOUL, January 7 (Itar-Tass) -- South Korean car production dropped by 8.2 percent in 2009 versus 2008 against the background of the global
economic and financial crisis.
According to a report of the Korean Association of Car Manufacturers,
that was published on Thursday, the country produced 3.82 million cars in
2008, while the indicator amounted to 3.51 million cars in 2009.
The association sees that the above-mentioned decline was mainly
caused by the reduction of car exports from the country.
In 2009, the South Korean car export dropped by 20.1 percent to 2.12
million cars, the report said.
At the same time, domestic car sales skyrocketed by 20.7 percent to
1.39 million cars in the period under review.
