Vice-President visits City Pillar Shrine construction site

(KPL) Vice-President Bounnhang Vorachit visited the site of the ongoing construction of the new City Pillar Shrine in Phiavath village, Sisattanark district, Vientiane capital, on Wednesday.
The construction project, at a cost of nine billion kip, is monitored by the Ministry of Information and Culture and executed by the Phettaphab Housing Estate and Bridge-Road Construction Company.
‘The new City Pillar Shrine is being built on an area of 1,500 sqm,” said Mr. Thongsa Sayavongkhamdy, Director of the Heritage Department, Ministry of Information and Culture.
Since 2007, there have been discoveries of 265 inscription stones.
The first discovery came on January 17, 2007 during an archaeological excavation before commencing the construction of Road No 1, with a grant from the Japanese government. The discoveries include 97 inscription stones.
The artifacts were dated in 1540, 20 years before Vientiane was proclaimed the national capital of the ancient Lane Xang Kingdom, currently Laos.
