Laos, Guangxi boost greater economic investment and relationship

NANNING, (KPL) - Chinese Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s top leader, Mr Guo Shengkun proposed the visiting Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad to boost greater economic cooperation and committed to greater enhancement in the bilateral relationship in trade and investment.
Mr. Guo Shengkun, Secretary of the Communist Party of China’s Guangxi Committee, said that Guangxi would encourage more enterprises in the province and China as a whole to do business in Laos.
Mr. Guo, also Chairman of the Standing Committee of People’s Congress of Guangxi, proposed to continue widening trade and economic cooperation as well as maintaining regular high-level visit between both sides.
He made the statement yesterday when he met Mr. Somsavat and his delegates at Li Yuan Resort in Nanning. Mr. Somsavat, also Chairman of the Laos-China Economic Committee, visited China to participate in the Forum on China-Asean Free Trade Area (CAFTA), which opened yesterday.
Mr. Guo represented Quangxi Zhuang provincial leaders and more than 50 million people of the province to welcome Mr Somsavat and his delegates. He thanked the Lao delegation for their participation in the forum and said Guangxi and Laos had enjoyed long-standing relations. In the past years, both sides also witnessed the growing cooperation in trade, economy, agriculture and social activities and culture including education and human resource development.
Mr. Guo said positive investment climate for Guangxi’s entrepreneurs and their success in running business in Laos had been made possible by the Lao government’s support.
Mr. Guo believed that the successful establishment of the CAFTA would boost the cooperation between Laos and Guangxi as well as China as a whole to a new height.
He said Guangxi stood ready to support and cooperate with Laos regarding the CAFTA.
Mr Somsavat said since Lao Party Secretary General and President Choummaly Sayasone and his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao agreed to raise the bilateral cooperation into comprehensive strategic partnership, Laos had actively put the accord into practice.
Mr. Somsavat commended that Laos and Guangxi should explore further potential areas of cooperation. “We should hold talks to outline focal areas of cooperation,” said Mr. Somsavat.
He informed Mr. Guo of his plan to lead a high-level Lao delegation to Guangxi in March this year for cooperation talks and learning experience on socio-economic development from Guangxi’s side and his plan was accepted by the host.
The direct flight between Laos and Nanning, the capital of Guangxi province, was also opened yesterday. The move is the realisation of commitment Mr. Guo has given to the Lao government.
Mr. Somsavat expressed his conviction that the direct flight would boost tourist arrivals of both sides. He also expressed thanks to the Chinese side for their support and facilitation in opening the Lao consulate in Nanning.
