Lao Airlines inks deal to purchase new airplanes from China

(KPL) The Lao Airlines, the national flag carrier, signed last Friday a purchasing contract of two new airplanes (ARJ21-700) with the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) in Vientiane.
The ARJ21-700 purchasing contract was signed by the President of the Lao Airlines, Dr. Somphone Douangdara, and Chairman of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Mr. Jin Zhuang Long in the presence of both sides’ officials.
The purchase of the ARJ21-700 aircraft was made possible following a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 5 March 2009.
Dr. Somphone said that the ARJ21-700 aircraft would be delivered to Vientiane by 2012.
The ARJ21-700 aircraft can carry 90 passengers with a flying-range capacity of about 1200-2000 km.
Dr. Somphone added the Chinese-made ARJ21-700 aircraft would boost the ongoing business growth of the Lao Airlines, especially in the passenger services.
The purchase of the Chinese-made aircraft is an effort to enhance the existing cooperation of the Laos-China Technical-Economic Joint Plan.
On the same day, the Lao Airlines collaborated with the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union held a song contest for youth nationwide to choose young people who have special gift in singing.
The contest featured the competition of 111 songs.
Throughout the competition, Ms. Lotchana Anouluck was the winner and first runner-up was Mr.
Thinnasack.
