EAST COAST STATE IMMIGRATION NABS 46 ILLEGALS
KUALA TERENGGANU (Malaysia), Jan 12 (Bernama) -- The east coast state of
Terengganu Immigration Department's enforcement division Monday nabbed 46
illegal immigrants in an operation at two housing projects here for various
offences.
State immigration director, Mahasan Mustapa, said those nabbed were 30
Indonesians, 14 Bangladeshis and 2 Pakistanis.
"Two Malaysians believed to be harbouring them were also detained," he told
reporters here Monday.
According to him, the three-hour operation was the first for the enforcement
division this year.
He said the operation was conducted at the a building complex site here
where 50 workers were checked.
Sixteen workers comprising seven Indonesians and nine Bangladeshis were
arrested for various offences, mainly overstaying.
In the second raid at a housing project, 30 of 80 workers checked were
detained for not possessing documents, overstaying and for misuse of their
social visit pass to work.
Mahasan said all the illegals, between the age of 20 and 50 years, were sent
to the Ajil Immigration Detention Centre for further investigation.
Meanwhile, he said last year his personnel arrested 1,295 illegals
comprising nationals of Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Cambodia,
Vietnam, Pakistan and Nepal for various immigration offences.
