AIDS soars in Yemen

SANA'A, June 13 (Saba) - The number of the HIV affected-people
has increased in Yemen after the National Program for Combating AIDS/HIVE registered more 53 cases during the first quarter of 2008, the weekly alwahdah newspaper has said.

Director of the program Abdul Hameed al-Suhaibi said the registered cases yet
reached 2376,
pointing out that there are further expectations. The authorities provide adequate
care for the people affected by the disease, al-Suhaibi added.

He said the many workshops
and training courses on fighting this epidemic, the ways to prevent it and its
transmission means were conducted across the republic with the aim to raise
awareness about
this disease.

The program is working now to develop the services of examining the
people who may be found affected by HIV and to issue a guide for training the
specialized
doctors who treat the affected, al-Suhaibi said.
