INDIAN NEWSMEN VISIT BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- A group of newsmen from India who are here before the visit of Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to India later this month visited the national news agency, Bernama, Tuesday.

They were briefed by Bernama editor-in-chief Yong Soo Heong.

"They wanted to know about developments in Bernama and I took the
opportunity to talk about the challenges that we are facing and the measures
taken by Bernama to overcome them," Yong said when met after the briefing.

The delegation was also impressed with Bernama's involvement in TV and radio
news because it had started as a news agency in 1968.

Yong said both parties had the opportunity to exchange views on how to
reduce operational cost in the media industry.

The journalists represented media organisations including the Times of
India, Deccan Herald, Hindustan Times, The Telegraph and New Delhi TV (NDTV).

NDTV senior special correspondent Raj Kumar Sahu said he did not have any
expectation on Malaysia although he had heard of the Petronas Twin Towers and
the KL Tower.

"I sincerely found that it is a really, really great experience, especially
the rapid transport system in the city," said Raj Kumar who arrived with the
others last Friday.

He said he was excited about visiting Bernama because he had heard about the
news agency.

"I have always heard about Bernama, it's one of the leading news agency
which now also has radio and TV, it is more like the news channel where I work,"
he said.

"We also wanted to know how the media operates in Malaysia," he added.

The visiting newsmen had also met Najib and Foreign Minister
Anifah Aman.
