SOUTH KOREAN STUDENTS IN EXCHANGE PROGRAMME IN EAST MALAYSIA STATE
KUCHING (Malaysia), Jan 13 (Bernama) -- A group of students from the Gunja Technical High School in South Korea are currently on a 11-day student exchange programme in Sarawak, an East Malaysia state.
The engineering and textile design students arrived here last Saturday,
accompanied by three teachers and school vice-principal Hwang Dea Seong.
On Tuesday morning, the students began classes at the Sekolah Menengah
Teknik Sejingkat in Jalan Bako near here.
One of them, Seo Min Ji, 17, described her unique learning experience in
communicating with local students and teachers, in a mix of simple English and
sign language.
"They are very friendly," she told reporters through a translator, Loi Heng
Chiang, a Malaysian student who had studied at a South Korean university.
This is Seo's first visit to the country.
Another student, Yoo Han Yeong, described his experience in the class as
invaluable, especially during the English class.
"I enjoyed the English class. My English is not that good but the students
here are very friendly and they offered to help me," he said.
Meanwhile, Hwang said the first student exchange programme involving the
Korean high school and SMT Sejingat was aimed at looking into Malaysia's
education system, particularly in Sarawak.
