EXIM Thailand opens office in Yangon
YANGON, June 10 (TNA) -- The Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Thailand) has opened office in Yangon, becoming its first oversea office.
Presiding over the opening ceremony of the bank on Friday was Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong.
In his opening speech, Mr Apisak said investors throughout the world are keen to invest in Myanmar because it is enriched with natural resources while the country’s economy is growing and its government has a policy to liberalise more foreign trade and investment.
He urged the EXIM Thailand to also act as economic diplomat between Thailand and Myanmar by offering advises on general economy and facilitate the businessmen-matching business partners.
Holding optimism, Mr Apisak said he believed the opening of EXIM Thailand office in the overseas would build advancement on economic partnership which would lead to sustainable wealthy of people of the two countries.
Meanwhile, EXIM Thailand president Pisit Serewiwattana said his bank plans to open offices in Laos and Cambodia next year and in Vietnam later.
EXIM Thailand has offered loans to businessmen investing in Myanmar more than 26 billion baht since it started operation in 1994, said Mr Pisit.
The bank is now considering to offer loans to more than 18 projects with combined investment 700 billion baht, Mr Pisit added. (TNA)
