Dubai Municipality obtains first international accreditation credential
Dubai, Feb 20, 2012 (WAM) - Food Control Department of Dubai Municipality has obtained the international standards ISO17020 of International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).
This certification will be delivered to the Food Control Department during the opening session of 7th Dubai International Food Safety Conference, which will start on Tuesday with the participation of more than 1300 professionals from more than 60 countries worldwide.
Eng. Khalid Sharif Al Awadi, Director of Food Control Department said that the credit of this achievement goes to the environment of excellence offered by the emirate to adopt initiatives and innovative programs to ensure the attainment of desired goals, applying the best international standards in all aspects. He also praised the team that continued to work day and night to achieve the requirements of this specification.
"The ISO 17020 is the internationally adopted standard to ensure the technical competence of the devices operating in the field of inspection. This standard will add to the achievements of the department, which obtained ISO 9001 years ago for the excellence in administrative aspects," Khalid said.
"The food control department has obtained this accreditation in all operations for imported and traded food, including meat, poultry products, drinks, juices, canned goods, vegetables, fruit, seafood, legumes, cereals, food ready to eat, dairy products, oils, water, eggs and dairy products. The accreditation also includes the inspection of food establishments operating in the Emirate of Dubai, including restaurants of all kinds, supermarkets, groceries, vegetable and fruit markets, hotels, food factories, butcher houses and candy stores," he added.
According to Sharif, this standard gives great credibility to the food regulatory authorities where this standard ensures that the regulatory agencies are performing their tasks in accordance with the terms offering neutrality, transparency, fairness in regulatory processes. It also ensures the rehabilitation and training of inspectors and staff on using food control equipments and other standards that guarantee the safety and quality of food, to protect consumers from unsafe and contaminated food. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
