European Capital of Culture to hold retrospective on Iranian filmmaker
TEHRAN,Feb.27(MNA) -- The Slovenian city of Maribor, named as the European Capital of Culture in 2012, will hold a retrospective on the renowned Iranian director Seyyed Reza Mirkarimi on March 1 and 2.
The event which will be held at the Cinema Udarnik, is part of a project named Cultural Embassies that is currently underway in the city.
Five films made by Mirkarimi were also screened in Maribor’s theaters from February 24 to 27 as part of a program called “Cinema in Maribor”.
His films include “A Cube of Sugar”, “So Close, So Far”, “The Child and the Soldier”, “Under the Moonlight” and “So Simple”.
Maribor, the second largest city in Slovenia, is the largest city of the traditional region of Lower Styria and the seat of the City Municipality of Maribor. In 2012, Maribor has been named as the European Capital of Culture.
It was presumed that it would host the XXVI 2013 Winter Universiade, but the Government of Slovenia declined financial support of the project in February 2012 due to a lack of available funds.
