FM urges more Iran-ICRC cooperation
Tehran, Aug 31, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi on Friday called for further cooperation between Iran and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Salehi made the remaks in a meeting with ICRC's President Peter Maurer who is in the Iranian capital for the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which was inaugurated with a speech by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution on Thursday.
Salehi's meeting with Maurer was held on the sidelines of the second day of the Summit.
The two officials discussed issues of mutual interest including the issue of Iranian aid workers abducted in Libya on August 1st.
Senior officials and relief workers of Iran's Red Crescent Society were abducted in the Libyan eastern city of Benghazi while they were on a humanitarian mission.
They were in Libya at the invitation of their Libyan counterparts.
Maurer Voiced ICRC's readiness to have complete cooperation with Iran for the freedom of seven abducted humanitarian activists.
