French playwright Lassalle cancels workshops in Tehran
TEHRAN,Jan.30(MNA) -- French director and playwright Jacques Lassalle who was invited to hold workshops at the 30th Fajr International Theater Festival will not be attending.
In a letter to the secretariat of the festival he mentioned that he couldn’t attend the festival since physicians diagnosed his health condition as poor due to a respiratory illness, so he will be unable to visit the “historical country, Iran”.
It was planned that he would hold three-day workshops from January 29 to 31 at Tehran’s City Theater Complex.
Several of Tehran’s theaters are playing host to Iranian and foreign troupes during the festival, which will be held from January 25 to February 11.
Lassalle has previously staged famous plays in France and several other countries including Chekhov’s “Platonov” and “Monsieur X, Here Called Pierre Rabier” by Marguerite Duras.
He founded the Studio Theater of Vitry, which ran until 1982 and for which he wrote several plays. Lassalle was director of the National Theater of Strasbourg from 1983 to 1990. He was also deputy head of the Comédie-French from 1990 to 1993.
