Iranian FM: Arab League must give opportunity to Syria

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec.1 / Trend D.Khatinoglu/ Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said the Arab League should help Syria until the February elections, IRIB News reported with reference to the BBC Arabic Service. During the emergency meeting of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, held on Wednesday to discuss the on-going developments in Syria, Mr Salehi said the Syrian government has established a committee to review the constitution and it is important that the international community give the country an opportunity to carry out its reformist plans. The Arab League deepened Syria's international isolation on Sunday by imposing a battery of economic sanctions meant to sever most trade and investment from the Arab world on Nov 27. The tough measures aimed at stopping Syria's bloody crackdown on dissidents, constitute another blow to the economy, already reeling from sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United States.
