Literati commemorate Persian poet Naziri Neyshaburi in India

TEHRAN,Feb.29(MNA) – Iranian and Indian literati gathered at the Jamia Millia Islamia, a national university in New Delhi on Monday where they paid tribute to Persian poet of the 17th century Hossein Naziri Neyshaburi. Head of the Persian Department of the university Professor Mohammad Iqbal, and Effat Neghabi, professor of Persian literature and language were honored at the ceremony. Naziri Neyshaburi was born in Neyshabur and went to Kashan which was known as one of the major centers of Persian poetry. He later travelled to India and composed his major collection there. He died in 1612 in Agra. Iranian ambassador to India Mehdi Nabizadeh in his message submitted to the ceremony said that Iranian poets, merchants and Sufis had an influential role in introducing the rich Persian culture and civilization to India. The two countries’ relations date back to years before Islam and continue till the present time, the message said. Iran’s Cultural Attaché Ahmad Alami present at the ceremony made a brief speech saying that Naziri Neyshaburi had a deep influence on contemporary poetry. Afghanistan’s Cultural Attaché Bashir Ahmad also present at the ceremony regarded the culture and civilization of each country the sign of power of that country, which needs to be preserved. The Ambassadors of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in India were also present at the ceremony.
