Mohammed bin Rashid signs "40 Poems from the Desert"

Dubai, Dec 5, 2011 (WAM) - UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum signed the new poetry diwan "40 Poems from the Desert," which features a collection of his old and new poems, at a special launch ceremony held at the Ara Gallery in Downtown Dubai - Burj Khalifa.
The Diwan, released in 10,000 fine print copies, was prepared by the Government of Dubai Media Office in celebration of the 40th National Day of the United Arab Emirates.
Sheikh Mohammed signed the model book in the attendance of Minister of Youth, Culture and Community Development Abdul Rahman Mohammed Nassir Al Owais, Director of Dubai Ruler's Court Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shebani, Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office Ahmed Abdullah Al Sheikh.
Sheikh Mohammed then toured an exclusive art exhibition showcasing the work of the talented Emirati artists whose paintings and illustrations were featured in the new poetry diwan. His Highness listened to briefings by the artists who drew their inspiration from the poems.
Expressing admiration of the unique artistic talent, Sheikh Mohammed applauded the efforts of Emirati artists by saying, "With your enthusiasm and innovation, you stand an embodiment of the Spirit of the Union. I wish you all the best under the wise UAE leadership." Concluding the ceremony, which was attended by a multitude of poetry and literature icons, prestigious cultural figures and media personnel, Sheikh Mohammed signed copies of the diwan and posed for a group photo with the Emirati artists and staff from the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO).
For his part, GDMO Director General Ahmed Abdullah Al Sheikh highlighted the importance of the event as it coincides with UAE's celebrations of the 40th National Day. He also described the diwan "40 Poems from the Desert" as an epitome of authentic Emirati heritage by a remarkable poet who is keen on nurturing and supporting young Emirati talents.
Ahmed Al Sheikh thanked artists and GDMO staff for their efforts and for making the event a big success. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
