Uzbek translation of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh published in Tashkent
TEHRAN,Feb.21(MNA) -- Ghafur Ghulam Literature and Art Publishing House of Uzbekistan has recently published the Uzbek translation of Ferdowsi’s magnum opus Shahnameh
The 736-page book has been translated by a team of Uzbek literati: Jumaniyaz Jabbarov, Shah Islam Shah Muhammadov, Hamid Ghulam, and Nazar Muhammad.
Professor of philological sciences and a senior Uzbek official Najmiddin Kamilov regarded the Shahnameh a precious treasure in the world of literature.
Ferdowsi has narrated the history of his country in the language of poetry and actually helped to revive it once again, he said.
“This great treasure consists of historical events, love stories, war battles, and hundreds of tales and stories from legendary Iranian kings and heroes,” he added.
Tashkent’s Nizami State Pedagogical University professor Hamedi also regarded the publication of the Shahnameh as a great event in the country and a unique gift for the people of Uzbekistan.
The Shahnameh, which is known as the “Book of Kings” in English, is the celebrated work of the epic poet Ferdowsi, in which the Persian national epic found its final and enduring form. It was completed in 1010. The Shahnameh millennium was accepted on UNESCO’s 2010 calendar of events.
