FNC Speaker meets PUIC Secretary General

Palembang, Indonesia - Jan 30, 2012 (WAM) - Mohammed Ahmed Al-Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council on Saturday met with Prof. Mahmud Erol Kilic, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference Member States (PUIC). The meeting was also attended by PUIC's members and delegation accompanying Al-Murr. During the meeting, UAE FNC speaker discussed the situation of Islamic countries and ways to reach unity and understanding. He also stressed that the Muslim Ummah is not a source of terrorism, conflicts and wars, but to human progress and its relationship with other nations are based on dialogue and understanding. He pointed out that Muslims alone are not facing the problems rather all faiths, people and nations are inflicted. For his part Professor Kilic said that extremism is rejected by all, believing that Islam calls for moderation and that the responsibility lies on the heads of the Islamic parliaments in resolving many of these issues and problems experienced by the Ummah, stressing that the Secretariat of the Islamic parliaments is ready to work on this. He stressed the need of dialogue between Muslims themselves before resorting to others. Al-Murr expressed UAE's appreciation for the efforts of PUIC's General Secretariat and its keenness on strengthen the parliamentary work as it provided several initiatives to develop it. He said that the proposals given by UAE Parliamentary Division are very practical and we are keen to participate actively on the transformation of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference to become an effective institution for the benefit of the Muslim Ummah. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
