'IAEA access to Iran’s military sites rests with relevant officials'

TEHRAN,March 1(MNA) – Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Director Fereydoun Abbasi said that the country’s military officials should decide whether to allow the International Atomic Energy Agency to inspect the country’s military sites, including Parchin. Abbasi made the remarks in an interview with reporters in Tehran on Wednesday in reply to a question about the fact that Iran rejected requests by the IAEA delegations to inspect the Parchin military site, which is located southeast of Tehran, during their visits to Iran from January 29 to 31 and February 21 to 22, and that Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA said on February 28 that the Islamic Republic does not rule out giving the UN nuclear watchdog access to the country’s military research sites. IAEA inspectors can visit the country’s nuclear facilities whenever they wish and inspections are being carried out every day, but the relevant officials should make decisions on access to other sites, Abbasi explained. He also said that no nuclear activities is being carried out at the Parchin site.
