Iran backs plan to abolish nuclear weapons: Iranian foreign minister

TEHRAN, Feb. 29 (MNA) – In meeting with Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said Tehran supports any plan to eradicate nuclear weapons around the world. Salehi also emphasized the importance of the Conference on Disarmament as the only event that takes place with the aim of world disarmament. Commenting on the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Salehi said that Iran as a committed member of the treaty is determined to achieve its rights as stipulated in the treaty. He went on to say that the Iranian nation has always been opposed to nuclear weapons because of Islamic teachings.
