Iran celebrates 33rd anniversary of victory of Islamic Revolution

TEHRAN, Feb. 12 (MNA) - Millions of people from all walks of life held rallies across the country on Saturday to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
In the capital, hundreds of thousands of people converged on the streets leading to Azadi Square, where President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed the people.
The people’s massive turnout delivered a strong response to the Western countries, which have recently build up pressure on Iran through the adoption of sanctions and have been seeking to provoke social discontent and sow the seeds of discord among the Iranian people.
The demonstration in Tehran was covered by photojournalists and correspondents from 33 countries.
Some marchers carried pictures of the late Imam Khomeini, the Founder of the Islamic Republic, and Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the current Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
The people chanted “God Is Great,” “Down with the United States,” “Death to Israel,” and other slogans.
The demonstrators also expressed their solidarity with the masses in the Arab countries that have been experiencing pro-democracy uprisings.
They also carried a 2-kilometer-long Iranian flag as revolutionary songs filled the air.
Almost all senior and mid-ranking officials took part in the rallies and praised the people for their massive and glorious participation in the national rallies.
