Oil embargo on Iran futile: Russia

TEHRAN, Dec. 24 (MNA) - Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich has said that Moscow believes that taking any action against Iran such as imposing oil embargo on it will not affect the country. "We have declared time and again that Russia is opposed to any anti-Iran action by the international community and believes that they will be useless," Lukashevich said on Thursday. “We are now witnessing that the previous sanctions against Iran were all futile,” he said. Russia invites all countries mainly those involved in Iran’s nuclear negotiations to resume talks between Tehran and the 5+1 group (the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany), the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said. Russia has always opposed unilateral sanctions imposed by the West over Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, and the country’s officials underline that negotiations will be the only way out of the current stalemate, he said.
